On March 14, 2025, the Canòdrom – Ateneu d’Innovació Digital i Democràtica in Barcelona, in collaboration with DigitalFems, hosted the fifth edition of 8M Canòdrom, solidifying its place as a key meeting point to rethink the intersection of music, data, and feminist digital practices.

Under the powerful slogan “Music + Metadata = Feminist Digital Revolution,” the event blended workshops, panels, and live music to spotlight gender inequalities in the music and tech industries and to empower women and gender-diverse communities through critical engagement with digital tools.

Workshops for Digital Empowerment

The day kicked off with hands-on training sessions focused on how data and artificial intelligence can be leveraged in the music industry.

Sarah Kloboves and Melina Raglin from Chartmetric explored how data analytics can help artists navigate platforms and boost visibility, while Majo Clutet presented Wolfie IA, a tool designed to support independent artists in promoting their work more efficiently.

Metadata and Data Justice

One of the most thought-provoking moments came from Ivana Feldfeber of Data Género, who led a conversation on the political dimension of metadata. She emphasized the need for an interseccional and feminist approach in data collection and analysis — a theme also central to the unveiling of the Manifesto for Feminist Metadata Governance, a call by DigitalFems to shift power structures in how cultural data is handled.

Panel: Rethinking the Future of Digital Music

The afternoon panel, “A Cybersyn to Democratize Digital Culture,” moderated by Antònia Folguera, brought together key figures from across the music ecosystem: Lara Alcázar (MIM), Kissy Y. Perea (Roots Entertainment Agency), and Natalia SanJuan Betancourt (Femnøise).

The conversation addressed the glaring underrepresentation of women and gender-diverse people in executive roles within the music industry, and the urgent need to build alternative infrastructures — platforms, funding models, and governance spaces — that reflect feminist and community-led values.

Live Music: Beats of Resistance

The evening closed with powerful live performances by Fernanda Alemán & FTFS, fusing electronic soundscapes with Andean rhythms, and GIGI ROS, who delivered an experimental pop set accompanied by bold visuals and choreography celebrating creative resistance and gender diversity.

8M Canòdrom 2025 was not just another Women’s Day event — it was a collective rehearsal for feminist futures in music and technology. By bringing together artists, technologists, and activists in one space, it modeled how digital infrastructures can serve as tools for justice, not oppression.
