REPORT FEMALE TECHONOLOGISTS IN SPAIN 2022
A landmark report on structural inequalities and the voices driving change
Developed by DigitalFems, this report is the first in Spain to center the voices, visions, and lived experiences of women in the tech industry. Based on a survey of nearly 500 professionals and qualitative interviews, it provides essential insights into the systemic barriers women face—and the conditions needed to dismantle them.
What this study brings to the table:
Centres women’s voices in tech: First-hand testimonies and data from professionals across Spain.
Reveals systemic patterns of inequality across hiring, promotion, leadership access, and workplace culture.
Provides concrete indicators for companies and institutions to measure inclusion beyond tokenism.
Links individual experience to structural analysis, highlighting how lack of transparency, leadership inertia, and “brogrammer” culture drive exclusion.
Key findings:
56.3% of women say they have not had the same chances for promotion as their male peers.
47.1% have left a job due to a lack of professional support and growth opportunities.
57.2% report no meaningful change in their company’s diversity policies over the last three years.
56.3% say their workplace lacks a designated person or department responsible for equality, diversity, and inclusion.
22.7% have experienced sexual harassment; 62.9% are unaware of, or say their company lacks, a clear protocol for reporting it.
Only 1.7% of employed women in Spain work in digital tech, compared to 6.2% of men.
Just 24% of leadership roles in the global tech industry are held by women.
The gender pay gap in Spain stands at 28.14%, and the digital gender gap at 0.23%.
This report is not just a snapshot—it is a call for structural reform.
It offers evidence-based recommendations, sheds light on invisible dynamics, and equips institutions with data and narratives to drive gender justice in tech.
